COSTUME
The material and shape of the costume represents the duality of Kaguya Hime’s feeling, between earth and moon, convention and freedom, luxury and nature. The silk textile, from a kimono roll, embraces her chest in a tangled weaving with the bamboo. The intricate front part echoes with the complexity of her feelings on Earth, while the back piece is as radiant as her birth in the bamboo. The freedom of her will and movement, constantly challenged, is represented by the Hakama inspired trouser.
The jumper is composed of a black silk fabric, from a 16-meter kimono roll. The original Kamon can be seen on the trouser. The ornaments parts are made of thin bamboo strips, woven radiantly on the back and entangled randomly on the front. The bamboo parts are the result of an apprenticeship with a Japanese bamboo artist in Hokuto, Yamanashi. Therefore, textile and bamboo echo each other, creating a silhouette balancing fluidity and rigidity.
